[Sold] African Inspiration – hand-painted fountain pen

This is such a Mardee pen! Mardee (whose full name is Madodana Cita) is vibrant, charismatic, positive, colourful and a true inspiration. He is making a name for himself with his hats that he paints in his studio in Hermanus, which are gaining a cult following among overseas visitors, and he loves painting his designs on to our pens. His inspiration come from a range of cultures: He himself is Xhosa and grew up in a rural village in the Eastern Cape of South Africa. He is fond of incorporating elements that would typically be found in house murals or pottery in the Ndebele culture, and he uses bright bold colours with lots of black and white that are reminiscent of Zulu beadwork. All combined with a contemporary and distinctively Mardee flair.

Mardee is permanently on the go. When he is not painting or talking with clients he is on business training courses, or busy with his work with the Rotary Club, helping crèches in the townships to upgrade and register with the authorities so that they can access resources, while also mentoring two trainees.

Mardee painted his artwork on to one of our fountain pen blanks that we specifically designed for the purpose. Once the artwork was complete we coated it in an outer layer of clear resin which allows the owner to carry and use this art on a daily basis without it getting scratched or damaged. A portable, functional, one-of-one original.

This fountain pen has a sterling silver cap band and section ring, a medallion logo embedded in the cap finial and is supplied with an engraved stainless steel Jowo nib.
