[Sold] African Jubilance – handpainted fountain pen

R5,500

We are thrilled that Madodana Cita, better known as Mardee, has agreed to paint some of our pens and this is his first fountain pen. Mardee is an inspiring, dynamic, extremely talented young man who has a thriving enterprise painting African designs on to hats that become instant favourites with tourists visiting our neighbouring town of Hermanus. Mardee has been so successful that he has already employed two assistants to help him with his hat business and is quickly gaining attention, having been featured on TV and with a growing following on social media. If you ever meet Mardee you will be energised by his bubbly enthusiasm and his passion for his art and for Africa.

Mardee was born in a small village in a rural part of South Africa where he grew up immersed in his Xhosa culture. He also has a great love for the artistic styles of other Southern African cultures including the Sotho and the Ndebele whose geometric patterns have been incorporated into a design style that is instantly recognisable as being from this region. Mardee has taken it a step further, including vibrant, jubilant colours and being playful with lines and shapes and recurring patterns.

Mardee painted his artwork on to one of our fountain pen blanks that we specifically designed for the purpose. Once the artwork was complete we coated it in an outer layer of clear resin which allows the owner to carry and use this art on a daily basis without it getting scratched or damaged. A portable, functional, one-of-one original.

This fountain pen is supplied with an engraved stainless steel Jowo nib.
