Crashing Wave III
This is a fresh batch of the Crashing Wave material. The name came from Di’s first snorkelling experience following an extended champagne breakfast. (What could go wrong?) The colours were amazing though. The photo of the pen’s cap shows a crashing wave captured in the resin. This was pure luck in the first pen we made from this batch and we cannot guarantee that any of the other blanks will have the same image in the resin … but that is also the beauty of handcrafted pen blanks … you can never predict what the final pen will look like until the last step in the process and the hidden pattern emerges.
We have made two pens from this batch so far (both of which has been sold), and there are currently three other pen blanks available. As can be seen from the photo of the blanks, we have used the darker end of the blank for the pen body, and some of the green for the grip section. We could also do it the opposite way round if you like, starting with the light white/green/turquoise at the barrel and with the darker purple end used for the cap.
What is difficult to capture in these photographs is the colour of the dark end – it is a deep, dark purple that has been buffed and polished to an almost mirror finish.
The Whitney model
The Whitney Model is a large pen which is gently tapered at both cap and barrel ends. It has slightly conical finials. The cap is a flush fit with the barrel.
