Perlé beaded fountain pen
The beads on this Perlé Pen are an iridescent fuchsia, and a deeper burgundy, interspersed with silver … while the body changes from a streaked deep blue to a more violet shade, depending on the angle of the light. (Almost impossible to photograph, so if you would like a closer look, please see the 6 second video posted on our Instagram page.) The pen is a Dafoe model with gently tapered ends and middle, and almost flat ends. The grip section is long, with a flare at the end, though this can be customised to suit your desired shape.
The word perlé means both beaded (in French, as in beaded with condensation) or in South Africa it refers to a semi-sweet sparkling wine, hence it’s fitting that this pen should be pictured alongside a bottle of bubbly. (So kind of Pongracz to produce a colour-coordinated bottle to match our pen ;), though they would probably be horrified at the name … I was brought up thinking Paarl Perlé was the height of sophistication, whereas it is now seen as one of the lower end of the market wines, whereas Pongracz is made in the fermented Methode Cap Classique. Which is a roundabout way of saying that it’s made in the same way as champagne, but without infringing on the appellation.)
Beaded pens are becoming one of our trademarks and we have recently upped our game by incorporating beadweaving … each coloured bead is woven into place by hand and there are more than 350 Japanese Miyuki Delica beads on this pen. Learning beadweaving is like learning to weave spells, only harder. (In my Muggle opinion.)
Note: If it is sold, please give us a shout and we can make a similar one just for you.
African Miyuki Magic model
This model is a beaded pen that we make in a number of different variations in terms of the areas that can be beaded: either the cap or the barrel, or both cap and barrel. It is a wide pen with sides that appear parallel, however this is a slight taper between the beaded areas and the finials. The finials are very slightly conical and the cap is a flush fit with the barrel.
|Total length (closed)||144||5,7|
|Length (pen only no cap)||133||5,2|
|Diameter at widest point (excl. cap)||16||0,6|
|Width of section at narrowest point||10,8||0,42|
The section can be made to fit either a Bock #6 or a Jowo #6 nib.
