Phoenix from the Flames fountain pen

ZAR8,600.00

Kseniia Nel has painted another in her Phoenix series, this time on a Jabulani model against an orange-gold background. And this painting becomes even more like a bird rising from the flames when the light is turned off and an ultra-violet torch is shone on the artwork.

According to mythology, only one phoenix is alive at a time, and can easily live to 500 years or more. When the time comes to die, it builds a pyre and bursts into flame. The new phoenix rises from the fire, and is even more spectacular than the one before it. The phoenix is seen to represent the cycle of life and rebirth, renewal, the emergence of something beautiful from pain and loss.

Kseniia’s magnificent phoenixes are painted against a spectacular orange and shimmery gold background. We have paired it with an burnt orange section, with our logo medallion in bronze, and a bronze cap band and section ring.

Kseniia has painted our pens in a wide variety of styles and  is happy to consider requests for commissions, so if you would like to suggest a particular theme, please let us know via the contact form.

Each of our hand-painted fountain pens is a 1/1 original work of art. No-one else will ever own an identical pen.

Nib:

Available in Jowo #6 in polished steel. Please select Fine or Broad at the check-out. If you are willing to have Di try her hand at grinding a “Skinny Architect” (which starts off as a broad nib, and is modded so that it is skinny on the downstroke with a slightly thicker line variation on the cross stroke, yet smooth enough for day-to-day writing), or a Stub, then please select this during checkout.

The Jabulani model

SPECIFICATIONS

This is a gently curvaceous model, with a girth of 16 mm (0,6”), narrowing to a 10,7 mm (0,4”) grip section. The relatively large size of the model is to allow the artist sufficient space for their artwork, and the artwork is encased in a layer of clear resin to protect it from getting damaged during day-to-day use. Our logo medallion is embedded in the cap finial which is ever-so-slightly rounded, and the barrel finial is ever-so-slightly conical. The cap is a flush-fit and does not post. The Jabulani model usually comes with a hand-made, cap band and section ring in either Argentium silver or bronze, though this may differ depending on what best suits the artwork. Custom hand-crafted roll stops can be added.
