[Sold] Serruria florida – Blushing Bride fountain pen
R6,000
One of my favourite flowers is the Blushing Bride, so I was delighted when botanic artist Lisa Strachan painted these delicate flowers on one of our pens. She describes these flowers so well: “I love them as they are soft and ballerina like. It is only found growing in nature in one particular location, the Franschhoek Valley, but is now widely grown commercially as a cut flower. It is especially popular for weddings.” Hence, although it is endemic to South Africa, you may well have seen this exquisite flower in bridal bouquets in other parts of the world.
Serruria florida is part of the protea family and, according to the SANBI website, was named after “J. Serrurier, a professor of botany at the University of Utrecht in the early eighteenth century. The species name florida refers to the Latin meaning free-flowering or producing abundant flowers.” (What an interesting factoid … I never knew that was probably how the state of Florida got its name.)
This is an original, one-of-a-kind work of art, in glossy black with a deep grey section. It is signed by the artist. By encasing the painting in clear resin we enable to owner to carry it and use it on a daily basis without damaging the artwork.
