The DJ (dinner jacket) fountain pen

The DJ fountain pen is named, not after a disk jockey, but after the jacket part of a tuxedo. When invitations to formal affairs (such as the Oscars) specify a dress code of “Black Tie”, men are expected to wear a tuxedo, with the dinner jacket usually made of wool; a black bow tie; a black satin waistcoat (never a cummerband, according to GQ Magazine), and women are expected to wear ballgowns or an elegantly coutured cocktail dress. No need to panic about what to carry when asked for autographs … this pen would be perfect! (Just by the way, DJ also happens to be Dave’s initials, and yes he does rock a tux!)
The main body of the pen is made from an in-house pour made of black and swirls of glittery gold that shimmer deep below the surface. This is a more recent variation on the Black Tie Affair material we have previously made, and the finials are in a complementary streaked gold resin (the photos show a more orangey gold, whereas in normal light the colour is closer to a honey-gold.) The model is a modified Thuli model, with the same tall, elegant dimensions but with a smaller cap thread (13mm instead of 14mm).
The pen is adorned with bronze rings that will develop a slightly coppery patina over time, and Dave has anodised the titanium clip to a colour that will roughly match the patina that the rings will gradually acquire.
The DJ fountain pen can be supplied with a Jowo #6 nib in polished steel, or a Bock in either bicolour (i.e. polished steel and gold-plate) or polished steel only.

The Thuli model

SPECIFICATIONS

This is a long, slender pen, with black finials and bronze rings at either end, and a double bronze and resin ring at the start of the cap. The cap is not a flush fit which means a) we have been able to make a smooth transition between the barrel and the grip section with hardly any ‘step’ in between and b) when you screw the cap on it automatically seals against the end of the section and in doing so creates a little sealed compartment for the nib which prevents the nib drying out.
