The Sylph fountain pen

It gives us tremendous pleasure to present this Sylph pen, which we developed together with @nibsandflourishes to celebrate her reaching 17 000 followers on Instagram. This pen features a body made of ribbons of hand-painted silk set in an 8-colour in-house resin pour. Both the silk and the resin reflect @nibsandflourishes favourite colours: purple and turquoise, as well as the spectrum of colours in between.

This is the first in our new Davis model: the barrel and cap are gently curved and the pen features a sterling silver band at the base of the barrel, silver rings at either end, as well as a ring in the middle and a thinner ring at the start of the grip section. It has a clip made of polished titanium. And not just any titanium; this is aircraft-grade titanium which is both strong and springy!

When it came to brainstorming a name for this pen, we talked about it conjuring ideas of dreams … ethereal … sylph-like … with a touch of wicked … and when we googled sylph, this is what popped up:

1. an imaginary spirit of the air.
2. a mainly dark green and blue hummingbird, the male of which has a long forked tail.
According to mythology, sylphs live in the air and in clouds (they cannot survive on land or water), and although mortal they are invisible to humans, They have dainty, fairy-like bodies and delicate wings, and have the ability to foretell the future.
The Sylph fountain pen is supplied with a Jowo #6 nib in polished steel. (Please enquire if you would prefer a Bock #6 as we have some in stock.)

Origin of the name:

The Davis model is named after Prof Ron Davis, a world expert on biochemistry and genetics, and a Stanford University researcher. He is also regarded as a hero among people suffering from ME/CFS as he has devoted his life to finding a cure to this disease. His son, Whitney, is very severely affected by ME/CFS and in Ron’s words, “… has enough energy to keep him alive and nothing to spare.” Our son, Craig, is also extremely ill with ME/CFS, though not as desperately affected as Whitney. If you would like to find out more about ME/CFS and its link with Long Covid, Ed Yong, Pulitzer Prize winner at The Atlantic has written a number of brilliant articles including this one.
