Victorian Shoes – original hand-painted fountain pen

R8,000

The extent to which Val Myburgh conducts her research into the images she paints on our pens is remarkable. She spent ages examining images of vintage shoes as well as images that were originally used in Victorian wallpaper. She painted the shoes (yes, those thin lines are painted with a brush and Indian ink, not drawn with a pen!) in a style reminiscent of newspaper adverts of the era. In those days, the adverts were made with the illustrations carved into a wooden block. The blocks were made from endgrain boxwood, which was sufficiently finely grained to allow for extremely detailed images, and strong enough to withstand hundreds of thousands of impressions on a printing press.

These shoes are authentic to the Victorian era. The wallpaper impression is enhanced with the dusty pink motifs that Val has painted among the shoes. The barrel finial has a most delightful image of a British bulldog smoking a pipe that is based on an original wallpaper image.

This fountain pen has a black grip section, a sterling silver cap band and section ring, plus a bronze logo in the cap finial and is supplied with an engraved stainless steel Jowo nib.

Nib:

Available in Jowo #6 in polished steel. Please select Fine, Medium or Broad at the check-out.
