[Sold] Whale Island – zendoodle fountain pen

The second in the Whale Tales series of zendoodled fountain pens is this one, Whale Island. The artist, Hanna, explained that the whale on the cap is helping the inhabitants of the island town to move from one mainland to another. The whale on the barrel is an island, carrying a town on their back.

In amongst the barnacle-adorned whales are some very exotic jellyfish, corals, seaweed, shells, waves and bubbles. The towns themselves are intricate works of art. The smallest one on the cap has no fewer than eleven different buildings (if I counted correctly) and the one on the barrel is equally mesmerising. The miniature ladder, for embarking and disembarking from boats, no doubt, and the tiny clock on the clocktower makes me shake my head in wonder that a human hand was able to draw these images. Please remember that the artwork appears magnified on our fountain pens, thanks to the outer layer of resin, and that the actual artwork is even smaller than it looks once the pen has been sealed in clear resin.

Hanna painted the background in multiple layers of watercolour on to one of our fountain pen blanks that we specifically designed for the purpose, then doodled her artwork on top of that in the finest pen imaginable. Once the artwork was complete we coated it in an outer layer of clear resin and completed making the pen. This allows the owner to carry and use this art on a daily basis without it getting scratched or damaged. A portable, functional, one-of-one original.

This fountain pen has an undersea-blue grip section, a sterling silver cap band and section ring, plus a logo in the cap finial, and is supplied with an engraved stainless steel Jowo nib.
