I cannot look at Val Myburgh’s painting of Space Pandas without cracking up. Her pandas are so deadpan, one nibbling on a piece of bamboo while riding in a rocket ship, another holding on to a balloon that is sailing in the sky. Inscrutable, while I am hysterical. Her steampunk space rocket is a blast, if you’ll ‘scuse the pun. It is made with parts of a brass trumpet, a brass faucet, a screw propeller and the best part is its nose … a fountain pen nib! Not to mention the metal chimney and rudder. Plus there is an orange bird marching across the nose, while the pandas look out through the portholes.
On the cap is a panda with the most enigmatic expression. He is being carried aloft by a beautiful balloon, while wearing two mismatched monocles, braces, delightful long-shorts, striped socks and Doc Martens.
The fountain pen was made by us at Stanford Pen Studio, painted by Val then coated in a clear resin by ourselves and given its final shape, polished, and buffed. We have added a glossy black section, as well as a silver section ring and cap band, and our silver logo medallion is embedded in the cap finial.
Each of our hand-painted fountain pens is a 1/1 original work of art. No-one else will ever own an identical pen.
