[Sold] Careless Whisper hand-painted fountain pen

Every now and then superlatives fail me. Brandon Lodewyk’s Careless Whisper, inspired by the saxophone intro to the famous George Michael song, is one such time. The mellow sax player, the way the music pours out of the instrument and down the pen then starts to encircle the supple dancer who is wearing only her pointe slippers … the butterflies that seem to stand proud of the pen as if embossed …

We have been experimenting with Brandon to find a way for him to use his favourite medium – graphite – on one of our pens. It has been a difficult journey as most artists first paint an undercoat over our pen blanks and then paint and draw their designs on top of that. But Brandon’s ultra sharp pencils just sliced right through the paint. We tried several new materials until we settled on this one which allows him to use his favourite tools: pencils in 2B, 8B and 12B (!), as well as fine cotton tips and an electric eraser.

The effect is superb. The graphite gives the pen a subtle sheen, despite the finish being just as glossy as any of our other pens, and the colour is a warm grey-black with a hint of brown. The opposite of a boring grey! And this allows Brandon to start drawing his tasteful nudes on to our pens.

This pen was made by us at Stanford Pen Studio, illustrated by Brandon in graphite  then coated in a clear resin by ourselves and given its final shape, polished, and buffed. We have added a deep grey grip section, as well as a bronze section ring, bronze cap band and our logo medallion (in bronze) embedded in the cap finial.

Each of our hand-painted fountain pens is a 1/1 original work of art. No-one else will ever own an identical pen.
