Snowy Owl hand-painted fountain pen

Yulia Glas’s painting of a Snowy Owl’s face on the barrel of this fountain pen, as with her painting of a Bald Eagle, required her to paint with a single hair on her paintbrush! It clearly took extreme patience and skill, and the result makes it so worthwhile. Her choice of colours, similar to the Bald Eagle, are adventurous: the Snowy Owl’s distinctive white plumage offset with pale violet flecks give it a delicate softness, while its sparkling gold eyes make it clear that this is a deadly successful hunter.
Snowy Owls have extremely well insulated plumage, as well as relatively high body fat, and can withstand the most extreme temperatures imaginable, looking apparently comfortable in – 62.5 degree Celsius and even withstanding -93 degrees Celsius for several hours. To maintain their energy they would need to eat about seven rodents a day on in cold Artic weather.
To capture these freezing conditions, Yulia has painted these Snowy Owls against a silvery-blue background denoting snow and moonlight, and the birds’ plumage in a mixture of white and pale violet. It is a potential companion piece to Yulia’s Bald Eagles hand-painted fountain pen.
Lana has matched this fountain pen’s section with the same shimmery deep purple colour she mixed for the section on the Bald Eagle pen. We have added a hand-made silver cap band, section ring and logo medallion embedded in the cap finial.

The Jabulani model
SPECIFICATIONS
This is a gently curvaceous model, with a girth of 16 mm (0,6”), narrowing to a 10,7 mm (0,4”) grip section. The relatively large size of the model is to allow the artist sufficient space for their artwork, and the artwork is encased in a layer of clear resin to protect it from getting damaged during day-to-day use. Our logo medallion is embedded in the cap finial which is ever-so-slightly rounded, and the barrel finial is ever-so-slightly conical. The cap is a flush-fit and does not post. The Jabulani model usually comes with a hand-made, cap band and section ring in either Argentium silver or bronze, though this may differ depending on what best suits the artwork. Custom hand-crafted roll stops can be added.
