Part of the Modern Classics series
Ben-Hur is an historical adventure novel by Lewis Wallace, published in 1880, and depicted here by Hanna Farmer in incredibly fine detail. This modern classic is set in the time of the oppressive Roman occupation of ancient Palestine and the origins of Christianity. In fact Christ plays a relatively minor bit part in the story, offering Ben-Hur water at one stage and performing miracles while dressed in very ordinary garments, much to Ben-Hur’s surprise, yet resulting in his conversion to Christianity. The book tells the tale of Ben-Hur and his struggles to clear his and his family’s name after his childhood friend falsely accuses him of trying to assassinate the Roman governor. He becomes a charioteer and seeks revenge against the man who betrayed him. The chariot race later featured as a 9-minute highlight of the film starring Charlton Heston. The film won 11 Oscars.
This fountain pen was made by us at Stanford Pen Studio. It has a custom oxblood red grip section, a custom, hand-crafted solid silver roll stop made by jeweller Aileen Février in the shape of an open book, as well as a silver cap band and section ring made by her.
Each of our hand-painted fountain pens is an original work of art that is painted directly on to the pen body. Should you see a pen painted by Hanna that you had set your heart on only to find it has been sold, you are more than welcome to contact us with a request for a pen on a similar theme, or to request a custom pen in a unique theme of your own.
