Dandelion Numbered, Limited Edition fountain pen
ZAR7,500.00
From the moment I first saw Yulia Glas’s painting of a dandelion I knew immediately it would look magnificent on our fountain pens. And the more I looked at it, the more I knew this would be one of our most popular painted pens, so we decided to make it a limited, numbered edition of just 10 pens. The colours are superb. The background is a shimmery blue that has a hint of teal, and the dandelion seed heads (called a pappus, for your factiod of the day!) are a delicate white that almost has a hint of pink under certain lights. And between the dandelion seeds are little sparkles that could well be fairy dust. Definitely a magical pen. Though the pens are similar, each one is unique as they are individually painted by Yulia. Here is part of the original painting by Yulia:
In the interests of transparency, I must tell you a story about what happened while we were turning these painted pen blanks into their final form as fountain pens. We decided to experiment with including an o-ring inside the cap, to make sure the grip section sealed tight against the inside of the cap so as to prevent any drying of the ink when the pen was not in use for an extended period. This was a new procedure and Dave was working his way through the 10 pens when he unexpectedly found that some of them were breaking at the lip of the cap, at the point where the silver ring would be placed. He was able to overcome this successfully by replacing the material at the lip, but it meant that each pen has a black line just above the silver ring. Some are wider and some are narrower as this is a hand-made process. We do not think it detracts from the design, but would like you to know that it is there all the same.
Each fountain pen is made by us at Stanford Pen Studio, painted by Yulia and sealed in clear resin before its final shaping, polishing and buffing to get that immaculate shine. It bears a custom-made silver cap band, section ring and logo medallion embedded in the cap finial.
Nib:
Available in Jowo #6 in polished steel. Please select Fine, Medium or Broad at the check-out. We are also offering this pen with either a 1.1 stub or a 1.5 stub at the same price as regular nibs.
The Jabulani model
SPECIFICATIONS
This is a gently curvaceous model, with a girth of 16 mm (0,6”), narrowing to a 10,7 mm (0,4”) grip section. The relatively large size of the model is to allow the artist sufficient space for their artwork, and the artwork is encased in a layer of clear resin to protect it from getting damaged during day-to-day use. Our logo medallion is embedded in the cap finial which is ever-so-slightly rounded, and the barrel finial is ever-so-slightly conical. The cap is a flush-fit and does not post. The Jabulani model usually comes with a hand-made, cap band and section ring in either Argentium silver or bronze, though this may differ depending on what best suits the artwork. Custom hand-crafted roll stops can be added.
