Checkmate, by Brandon Lodewyk, is an exceptionally detailed story of the skill of chess, and how this relates to the skill of leadership. In his words, “The blindfolded king symbolises that leaders are not always able to have a clear vision of the future and need to have the right people at their side; they need loyalty, a strong team, followers who will protect the fortress in uncertain times. Because great leaders are not defined solely by their own vision, but by how they inspire and motivate the others around them. If you have all those pieces in place: Checkmate!”
A special “Easter egg” that Brandon added is our logo (the three nibs in the shape of a crown) on the castle’s banner. Thank you, Brandon! What a nice touch.
This pen was made by us at Stanford Pen Studio, illustrated by Brandon in graphite, then coated in a clear resin by ourselves and given its final shape, polished, and buffed. We have added a very dark grey grip section, as well as a bronze section ring, and our logo medallion (in bronze) embedded in the cap finial.

The Jabulani model

SPECIFICATIONS

This is a gently curvaceous model, with a girth of 16 mm (0,6”), narrowing to a 10,7 mm (0,4”) grip section. The relatively large size of the model is to allow the artist sufficient space for their artwork, and the artwork is encased in a layer of clear resin to protect it from getting damaged during day-to-day use. Our logo medallion is embedded in the cap finial which is ever-so-slightly rounded, and the barrel finial is ever-so-slightly conical. The cap is a flush-fit and does not post. The Jabulani model usually comes with a hand-made, cap band and section ring in either Argentium silver or bronze, though this may differ depending on what best suits the artwork. Custom hand-crafted roll stops can be added.
