Val Myburgh’s Dia de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, fountain pen is just as colourful and theatrical as the festival itself. Mexico’s celebration may seem ghoulish to those not familiar with the tradition, (and of course, it is!), but it also a way of reminding us of those who have died and celebrating their lives. And reminding us that we are all mortal! The cap on Val’s pen features a dandy of a skull, with a handsome moustache and marigold eyes, wearing a funky sombrero. The barrel has a devilish mask also associated with Dia de los Muertos, together with some motifs which have an Aztec origin, as many scholars believe the Day of the Dead festival first began with the Aztecs. Val has added marigold symbols, and a pretty marigold on the base of the barrel, referencing the use of marigolds to decorate altars during this festival.
The fountain pen body was made by us at Stanford Pen Studio, painted by Val then coated in a clear resin by ourselves and given its final shape, polished, and buffed. We have added a deep burgundy grip section, as well as a bronze section ring and cap band, and our logo medallion is embedded in the cap finial.
Each of our hand-painted fountain pens is a 1/1 original work of art. No-one else will ever own an identical pen.

The Jabulani model
SPECIFICATIONS
This is a gently curvaceous model, with a girth of 16 mm (0,6”), narrowing to a 10,7 mm (0,4”) grip section. The relatively large size of the model is to allow the artist sufficient space for their artwork, and the artwork is encased in a layer of clear resin to protect it from getting damaged during day-to-day use. Our logo medallion is embedded in the cap finial which is ever-so-slightly rounded, and the barrel finial is ever-so-slightly conical. The cap is a flush-fit and does not post. The Jabulani model usually comes with a hand-made, cap band and section ring in either Argentium silver or bronze, though this may differ depending on what best suits the artwork. Custom hand-crafted roll stops can be added.

We supply our pens with a Jowo #6 nib, alternatively the section can be made to fit a Bock #6 if requested.
