[Sold] The Flying Buttress fountain pen

This product is currently out of stock and unavailable.

The Flying Buttress is the next in Hanna Farmer’s exceptionally detailed, The Inventors Collection. In the current series of six pens, Hanna concentrates on inventions that shaped Europe in the Middle Ages and this pen includes:

  • The flying buttress, an iconic feature of the Gothic period, though it first appeared in architecture in the 12th century. These awe-inspiring arched supports were often included in medieval cathedrals and are still breath-taking to view today.
  • The wheelbarrow, which made a substantial difference in activities from agriculture to industry.
  • The spinning wheel.
  • Eyeglasses.
  • The cannon (what pity that has made such an impact on history!).
  • The tidal mill – the use of wind and water for power is one of the most interesting of the medieval inventions.
  • The alcohol still – this too has had both a positive and negative impact on subsequent generations.

As always, Hanna has researched her subject matter in depth and added information such as dates and details from original drawings.

This pen was made by us at Stanford Pen Studio, painted and zendoodled by Hanna then coated in a clear resin by ourselves and given its final shape, polished, and buffed. It has a sterling silver cap band, section ring, and bronze logo medallion in the cap finial, and we have added a light brown section.

One thing we ought to emphasize is that each of our hand-painted fountain pens is a 1/1 original work of art. No-one else will ever own an identical pen.

The Jabulani model

SPECIFICATIONS

This is a gently curvaceous model, with a girth of 16 mm (0,6”), narrowing to a 10,7 mm (0,4”) grip section. The relatively large size of the model is to allow the artist sufficient space for their artwork, and the artwork is encased in a layer of clear resin to protect it from getting damaged during day-to-day use. Our logo medallion is embedded in the cap finial which is ever-so-slightly rounded, and the barrel finial is ever-so-slightly conical. The cap is a flush-fit and does not post. The Jabulani model usually comes with a hand-made, cap band and section ring in either Argentium silver or bronze, though this may differ depending on what best suits the artwork. Custom hand-crafted roll stops can be added.
